Cheerful Outdoor Wedding at Rapid Creek Cidery | Iowa City, Iowa

Updated: Jul 1, 2020

Outdoor weddings are the dreams of many a bride-there's something so special about the idea of being surrounded by nature with perfectly pristine views, exchanging your vows surrounded by loving friends and family...ahh, I can picture it now!

In reality however, planning an outdoor summer wedding in Iowa can be quite a challenge. Stifling heat and humidity and tumultuous afternoon storms are just a short list of challenges for outdoor wedding dreams. But planning your wedding at a venue that can accommodate for a foul weather backup plan is a super smart way to eliminate the stress of planning for an outdoor wedding!

Marrying a meteorologist can also help.

Yes, Mallory's groom Alex had an inside scoop on the weather as a meteorologist and was able to reassure everyone that even though the forecast portrayed a bleak afternoon of storms, it would be dry for their wedding ceremony. So everything went as planned, and they had a their dreamy outdoor ceremony surrounded by the giant oak trees at Rapid Creek Cidery.

A summery flower palette that evoked visions of icy scoops of sherbet created a beautiful contrast with the deeper wood tones of Rapid Creek Cidery, and complimented the bride's dress perfectly. We used fluffy peonies, roses, ranunculus, local snapdragons, and berries.

Classic eucalyptus runners added a fresh touch of green to the wood farmhouse tables.

We even got to design the "we do" wood cake topper to compliment the couple's invitation suite!
